THE 2025 RACE FOR THE RUM WAS A HUGE SUCCESS!
SATURDAY, JUNE 21st, 2025
32 boats raced in the 30th Essex Rum Challenge Regatta on Saturday June 21, 2025. Conditions were bright and sunny and a 6-8 knot breeze finally came in from the west enabling the Race Committee to start the racing at 1230 after a 30 minute delay. 20 boats in Classes 1 through 4 raced around the buoys over a 7-mile course that took them to the Cornfield Point buoy and then to a mark on the north side of Long Sand Shoal and then back to the finish. The 12 boats in Classes 5 & 6 had two races on a windward/leeward course. The first race covered 5.6 miles on a twice-around course while the second was shortened to 2 miles on a once-around course as the wind started to drop and the flood tide grew stronger. Congratulations to all the winners and the 7 EYC skippers that placed. It was a great showing from the EYC skippers and crew!
